Who we are: In Your Nook Knits, a one-person studio ("we", "us"). Contact: inyournookknits@gmail.com
Knitting Nook (shown in the app as "The Nook") is a knitting tracker for iOS and Android. This policy explains what we collect, why, and where it goes. Short version: your knitting stays yours. We collect the minimum needed to run accounts, sync, and purchases — and nothing at all if you use the app as a guest.
1. What we collect
| When | What | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Guest mode (no account) | Your knitting never leaves your device. All of it stays in local storage. | — |
| You create an account | Email address, sign-in identity (Apple / Google) | Account, sign-in, support |
| Your first account trial | A secret-key-derived fingerprint of each email address on your account (never the email itself) and the date your first trial began | Give each email address the free trial only once, including after account deletion and re-signup |
| Your first trial on an Apple device | First trial date in iCloud Keychain | Prevent repeat trials across reinstalls and devices using the same Apple Account |
| You request early deletion of trial fingerprints while keeping your account | An erasure preference linked to your existing sign-in IDs, until account deletion | Honor your request without recreating the deleted server records |
| Sync is on | Your projects, stash, needles, notes, calendar entries; pattern PDFs you imported and their page images | Backup and cross-device sync — this is the product feature you turned on |
| You buy Pro | Purchase state and an app user ID | Unlocking what you paid for; receipts stay with Apple/Google |
| Signed in (usage) | Small usage events (e.g. "app opened", "counter used", "project created") and error reports (error message ≤300 chars, stack ≤600 chars, app version, screen) — capped at 8 events per launch | Fixing crashes and understanding which features matter. Linked to your account; guests are never included |
| You email a problem report | Your account email and the app's error log, sent from your mail app | Support |
| The app hits an error (everyone, including guests) | The error message and stack trace, the app version, and the device/browser type. No account, no name, no IP address, and nothing you wrote — project names, notes and photos are never included. | Finding and fixing crashes before they reach more people |
We do not track you across other apps or websites, show ads, or sell data. Ever.
2. Where it goes (processors)
| Recipient | What | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Account, trial fingerprint and first trial date, synced data, pattern PDFs and page images, usage/error events | Database & storage host |
| RevenueCat | Purchase state, app user ID | Purchase management |
| Cloudflare Workers | Ravelry requests pass through our proxy; your Ravelry token is not stored there | Proxy |
| Ravelry | Only if you connect your account: the searches, saves, and library actions you take | Your Ravelry connection |
| Apple / Google | Payment, sign-in; Apple also syncs the first trial date through iCloud Keychain | Platform |
| Google (Gmail) | Problem-report emails you choose to send | Support inbox |
| Sentry | Crash and error reports only — no personal data | Error monitoring (United States) |
3. Your rights
- Export — Settings → Backup export gives you everything as one file, anytime.
- Delete — Settings → Delete account removes your account and cloud data, and clears this device, except the trial fingerprint and first trial date, which are kept for up to 1 year (see Retention). The iCloud trial record described below also remains.
- Access / correction / restriction / portability / objection — email us; we answer within 30 days.
- EU/UK legal bases: contract (account, sync, purchases), legitimate interest (crash and usage diagnostics — minimal, capped, never for ads), legitimate interest (keeping the free trial to once per email address), consent where required.
4. Retention
Account data lives until you delete the account. One exception: the trial fingerprint and first trial date are kept until 1 year after your first trial began, even if you delete your account sooner. Expired records are no longer used and are removed by a daily automatic cleanup. They're used only to keep the free trial to once per email address, and the fingerprint is not your plain email address. Email us if you want these server records deleted sooner. Synced content lives until you delete it or the account. Usage/error events are kept up to 24 months, then deleted or anonymised. Crash reports sent to Sentry are kept for 90 days and then deleted.
Early deletion requests. While your account remains active, we keep an erasure preference tied to its existing sign-in IDs so that trial fingerprints are not recreated. This preference is removed when those sign-ins are deleted. The existing account trial date and paid purchases are not reset. We do not promise another trial after erasure.
iCloud trial record. The first trial date in iCloud Keychain is separate from the server trial fingerprint. It syncs through your Apple Account, survives app reinstallation and account deletion, and does not expire automatically. The server record's 1-year limit and early-deletion procedure do not remove this iCloud record.
Cloud copies when sync ends. If your Pro subscription or trial ends and is not renewed, we keep your cloud copy for 3 months so you can restore it, then delete it. We tell you 30 days and 7 days before. The 3 months start after the platform's billing retry period ends, not on the day the subscription lapses. We never delete anything from your device. One caveat worth knowing: to save space, sync keeps some pattern files in the cloud instead of on every device. When Sync ends the app starts pulling those onto your device automatically, so open it during the 3 months and it finishes the job. Anything still only in the cloud on the deletion date is gone, and our reminders tell you how many are left. Settings → Backup export saves what is on the device as one file, anytime.
5. Age
The Nook is not directed at children. You must be 14 or older to create an account.
6. Copyright content
Pattern files you import are for your personal use. If sync is on they are stored in your private cloud space, visible only to you. Takedown requests: see the Terms of Service (DMCA section).
7. Changes
We'll post changes here and, for material changes, notify you in the app or by email before the new processing begins.
